SPICE MARKET, CITY WALLS, GOLDEN HORN, BOSPHORUS BOAT TRIP

The tour starts by picking-up from the hotel and the guests are transported to the tour meeting point.

One of the world’s most eulogized stretches of water, the Bosphorus is a source of pride for Istanbul’s residents and of admiration for its visitors. The 30-km strait that divides Europe and Asia and connects the Marmara and Black Seas (only way in/out to/from Black Sea) is one of the city highlights. The Bosphorus has, for all ages, been the subject of legend and art. A striking feature of Istanbul, the Bosphorus coast is lined by “yali” (old Ottoman wooden residences) flirting with the sea each with a tale of their own, marble palaces, sultans’ summer residences, gardens etc.

GOLDEN HORN, BYZANTINE WALLS

First, drive along the coast line of the Golden Horn, the arm of the Bosphorus and a natural harbour of the historical peninsula separating the old and the new parts of Ýstanbul where the first colonies settled during the Byzantines. The residential area for Byzantine Jews, Italian traders and other non-muslim minorities. Drive along the traces of history at Balat viewing Metal Church of St. Stephen the Bulgarian, Jewish Hospital (Or-Ahayim), Fener Orthodox Patriarchate and 22 kms. long Byzantine City Walls, strongest fortification of the middle age.

SPICE MARKET

Then, stop for a short visit of the Spice Market known as well as Egyptian Bazaar. Healthy Herbs & Spices!!!
Your guide will tell you how and why Turkish people use herbs, herbal tea and Spices to treatment illnesses and to stay healthy. Used as the Spice Market since 1665 : An exotic food market and bazaar selling spices, dried fruit, cheeses, olives as well as towels, slippers, baskets and some jewellery. Outside, on the left, there is a wonderful flower market. Lots of local colour!

BOSPHORUS BOAT TRIP

Then, walk to the nearest pier to take a regular touristic ferryboat that will take you for 1h30m enjoyable trip on the Bosphorus Strait. From your cruise boat, you will view the dramatic sights lining the Bosphorus’ wooded shores: mosques, the Bosphorus Bridge that for a time was the world longest and the massive Rumeli Hisari, a fortress built by Fatih the Conqueror in just three months as he did preparations to conquer Istanbul. The 19th century mansions of the Ottoman elite and the Sultan’s fanciful gingerbread palaces and hunting lodges; most famous of them is Dolmabahçe Palace, yet another residence of the Ottoman Sultans. Pass by the Ortaköy area with its restaurants, bars and cafes. It was also an area were, through centuries three religions have peacefully coexisted: there are still active church, mosque & synagogue at the same area.
After the tour the guests will be dropped at the hotel.
